THE ROLE OF WEB ANALYTICS TO WEBSITE OWNER

A web analytic is in essence is a quantum indicator of the behavior of the visitors of website. It is indicative of the performance of the website and from these reports and trends it is possible to implement more effective programs, for enhanced sales.

Web analytics are based on Log files and java script and the third method is the combination of the two whereby more relevant data is obtained.

While the log files of server will log several files for each visit page tagging script will as a whole seen by the visitor.

Unique or new visitors is recognizable by the log file like the time spent on the website and the favorite key word phrase .to arrive at the website and the country of the origin of the visitor, file type etc. Data transfer is recorded is maintained in the log file with precision and by viewing these in web analytics programs viz Webalizer and Awstats which analyse raw log file data in graphics.

While log file is usually available in the server page tagging is an outsourced option where visitor’s data is captured by provider’s remote server. Since page tagging requires
JavaScript to be installed in every web page there is the possibility of the visitor’s not to allow the script to run. Hence a log file has no such hassles. In log files certain parameters hits and page views are not as accurate as page tagging. Log file records visits by search engines where as page script don’t.

Log file web analytic records failed visits too whereas page tagging takes into account only when a web page is displayed.

To critically analyze the strength and weaknesses of the web site the feedback provided by the web analytics of visitor is invaluable. From these data it is possible find which pages are visited most and which key words are most related to the web site concerned.
