iWeb was one of the first Internet hosts to use the blog as a means of communication with its customers, with the first article posted on the French version of their blog in February 2001, more than seven years ago.
More of a transformation than an update, the new blog is streamlined for rapid browsing and is divided into three main sections, in line with the interests of the various audiences. The items will be categorized as either;
a) iWeb news, including press releases and anything new about the company,
b) a ticket or post of technical interest for web developers and systems administrators and
c) articles and news related to the web hosting industry in general.
A section dedicated to the ’system status’ will be visible at all times on the blog’s pages. This section keeps clients informed in real-time of any emergency, maintenance, intervention or any other occurrence that may affect one or more aspects of iWeb services. Once an event (even minor) arises, an article is immediately posted to inform customers and provide as much detail as possible.
The value of the blog is its use as a means of communication with all audiences iWeb, friends, customers, partners (and sometimes even competitors). With the clear objective of ‘opening and facilitating dialogue’ rather than just ?sending? or disseminating information.
Earlier this month, iWeb opened its new head office, located on on Nuns’ Island, housing a completely redundant IT center. Eric Chouinard, President of iWeb noted, ”The new headquarters addresses two major objectives; to provide a high quality colocation infrastructure for our clients, and to reunite almost all of our employees by providing a unique working environment. Until recently, iWeb’s 120 employees were spread out in our three data centers.”
Nicole Menard, Parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade and Minister of Tourism, remarked, ”This new step in your young history reflects the energy that has marked your growth.”
This is the third building for iWeb, who are already thinking about the fourth according to Mr. Chouinard. The former headquarters, located at 3185 Hochelaga, will remain staffed to fully support the 1800 servers on site. The second center, located in the Montreal borough of Saint-Leonard, has a total capacity of 12 000 dedicated servers and 105 colocation cabinets.
Gerald Tremblay, Mayor of Montreal added, ”If iWeb is now recognized as a world leader in the field of web hosting, it is thanks to the perseverance of its leaders who managed to avoid the pitfalls of the dot com implosion while steering their business towards promising growth markets.”
